Friday we were able to coerce my best friend, Kim, to take our family pictures. (It's really not hard to get her to take them. She's a super awesome photographer and just got a new lens she wanted to try out. What a coincidence that we needed our pictures taken the same week she bought her new lens!!) Indiana Jones
I just have to say that we love our Wii!! Right now Dave and Jacob are playing Lego Indiana Jones, and they love it. It's so cute to see them work together as a team to pass levels, and just have fun. I guess it's good ole father-son time. (at least that's what Jacob likes to call it) :)
I'm tempted to get the wii fit after the baby is born, but I'm a little nervous about it after reading my sis-in-law's blog about how mean it can be sometimes. (And I know Dave would say something about me having a load of winsor pilates and 'the firm' so maybe i should use those. we'll see!)

Trying to like mustard
This actually happened a couple months ago, but I hadn't blogged about it and thought today would be a good day to do that. :)
At the end of May, Jacob and his kindergarten class went on a tour of the lunchroom. It was super exciting! When Jacob got home he told me all about it, then got a serious look on his face. I asked him what the matter was and he said something like "Well, I guess I better start liking mustard." That was a little confusing to me. He explained that on the tour of the lunchroom he had seen a whole box of mustard packets. He said that since he was going to first grade he had better try to like mustard. I just kind of giggled to myself and kind of forgot about it. The next time we had corndogs Jacob requested mustard along with his ketchup. I just kind of looked at him a little funny (because i know he doesn't like mustard) and he said, "Mom, remember, I'm trying to like mustard."
I love that kid! :)

We're Home!
This past weekend was a whirl-wind adventure. Not really...but that sounds better than "our weekend was really fun." :) My great-grandma had her 100th birthday party in Dunkirk, Indiana. We left Thursday afternoon after Dave got out of clinic. It was about a 12 hour drive, but the kids did wonderfully.
Something exciting did happen on the way there. Somewhere in Illinois we we driving in a terrible storm when we came across a semi truck that had flipped. There were 2 other cars on the side of the road, but it was pretty obvious that this had just happened. So we stopped and Dave got out to make sure everyone was ok. The driver was actually stuck in the cab, so Dave and a couple other guys had to break the windshield to get him out. Then Dr. Dave gave him a quick examination and waited for the ambulance to get there. Luckily the driver wasn't too injured.
It was super late when we finally got to Indiana. Friday we swam in the hotel pool and went over to Uncle Mike and Aunt Cindy's house. We love visiting them. They live on the farm that my grandparents used to live on, so I have fun memories of the place. They have a donkey and chickens, and I'm sure other animals, but I didn't venture out to see the rest of them. They also have a beautiful garden and fruit trees. I'm hoping to pick Uncle Mike's brain on gardening and fruit tree growing when we move. So Uncle Mike...get ready to impart all of your wisdom! Jacob and Dave went fishing and Jacob actually caught a fish! He was so excited!!! He ended up throwing it back because it was a little on the small side. Friday night we went back to the hotel and had the whole extended fam over to swim in the pool. Jacob made fast friends with Uncle Mike and tried to impress him with his swimming. It was super cute.
Great-grandma's party was held Saturday. Not everyone could make it, but there were still a lot of people there. We had lunch and visited with 2nd cousins and great aunts and uncles. The community was invited to come hang out after lunch. (Dunkirk is a tiny town and grandma has lived there since the 30's, i think) We went back over the Uncle Mike and Aunt Cindy's house and had a surprise baby shower for my cousin and his wife. Ryan and Betty Jo are having their first baby, a girl, due in about 2 weeks. Then we went back to the community center for more family fun and entertainment. I actually got a 5 generation picture that I will for sure post as soon as my sister, Emma, sends it to me. (Our camera completely died in Indiana.) :(
The trip back was long, but we made it! I wish we could have spent another week there. I just didn't get all the visiting and hanging out in that I wanted to. Maybe next trip!

Bandaids on your Eyebrows
Funny conversation last night while we're eating our FHE treat:
Jeanette leaves the table and comes back in about 2 minutes.
Me: Hey Jeanette, did you know you have bandaids on your eyebrows?
Jeanette: Yes, they were hurting.
Me: Are the still hurting?
Jeanette: No, the bandaids made them better.
Needless to say we had to get the bandaids off her eyebrows before she went to bed. The problem was that she had gotten her hair all kinds of messed up under the bandaids and she had overlapped the bandaids so I could really only pull from the end. I decided that pulling really fast might be the best method. I was wrong. As soon as I pulled I realized that Jeanette wasn't used to the wonderful feeling that comes with waxing your eyebrows. She kind of doubled over and started crying. Dave was there to rescue her. And don't worry...she still has her eyebrows.
ps. I'm still working on getting pictures posted. Heather...i just might be calling you in the next couple of days to tell me how to do that. :)

It's Official!
It's now official...we're moving to Chanute!!! Last week Dave signed his contract with the Ashley Clinic in Chanute, Kansas. He starts in August of 2010. So we still have a year left in Salina, and I have a whole year to get things ready. Now comes the exciting stuff. I'm going to start talking to a realtor in August to kind of see what's out there and to have her keep her eyes open for us. We're still trying to decide whether to buy or build, so we'll see what happens. It's just so nice to know where we'll be living...forever!!!!

IT"S A BOY!!!
Yes, that's right...baby #4 is a boy!!! Jacob was way too excited to hear the news. He even said, "I will definitly take care of that baby. Mom, you won't have to do a whole lot because I'll be helping out." Did I have a tape recorder handy? No, so I'm sure this wonderfully, good intentioned comment will be forgotten. But that's ok. :) Now it's time to come up with names... Any suggestions?

FABULOUS!
The cruise was FABULOUS!! We had a blast just doing a whole lot. We sat around, read some great books, went snorkling, hung out with some sting ray, went to a pirate museum, ate some fabulous food, climbed a waterfall, saw some dolphins, hung out with Quentin and Jess, and got some good Dave and Heather together time. It was GREAT! We are definitly going to go on another cruise. (in a couple of years) Pretty soon I'll figure out how to put pictures on my blog, then maybe I'll post some. :)
The kids had a great time with Aunt Heather. No lies though, I was glad to see them again. (Dave was too) Around Thursday I kept thinking, "Oh, the kids would love this"...and so on. That's how I knew I was missing them. I love those kids!!
Now we're back and there's only 1 more week of school left. (actually 2 days) I'm super excited to get Jacob all day again. I've already got an action packed summer planned. It involves swim lessons, art classes, gymnastics (for Jeanette), canoe trips, fishing, and Indiana trip, and trips to Chanute. It should be FUN!
Last but not least...my sister is moving to Utah!!! Jennifer will be interning for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints doing some design work on temple interiors. (am I right Jenn?) I'm super excited for her, but I'm totally going to miss her. I hope she doesn't mind lots of phone calls...

It's Cruise Time!
ok, ok...I know I'm horrible at this blog thing. But I promise I'll work on it so all my fans will know what the Guernsey gang is up to. (i pinky swear)
anyway...6 more days until Dave and I leave for our cruise!!!! I'm so excited!!! I'm also getting a little anxious. I know I'm going to forget something, and I know that about 2 days into the cruise I'll miss the kids. But I also know we'll have a fabulous time and Dave and I really need this vacation. I was trying to remember the last time we really went on vacation without the kids. The answer...our honeymoon. ha ha ha
The kids are doing fantastic. Jacob is a rock star at reading and writing. I also have a super cute story I have to share about Jacob. In about 2 weeks Jacob's teacher is having a BBQ at her house to celebrate the end of the year with the kids. Jacob was really excited about this. There is going to be a trampoline, tie-dye shirt station, basketball, etc. The only problem is that the BBQ is on a Sunday. Dave and I decided we would let Jacob make his own decision about whether he could go or not. So yesterday we talked with him about it and let him know he needed to make a decision and here is what he said, "I think the BBQ is going to be lots of fun, but I also want to keep the Sabbath day holy, so I'm not going to go." We are so proud of him for choosing the right and making such a hard decision!!!
Jeanette is doing well. She's fully potty trained now, which is awesome!!! She's starting to want to do big girl things like write her name. (although it looks like chicken scratches!) Jeanette is also a little chatter box. We love it!
Ella is running everywhere! She loves to be outside and already has a healthy glow. (i.e. sunburn-because mom's cool and forgot to put sunblock on her) she's saying little words like 'mommy, daddy, baby, bunny', and she can point to various body parts. my favorite-her nose. i don't know why that's my favorite, it's just cute.
Dave is in the last months of his second year of residency. I'm so glad because I've heard that third year is much better. I'm not really sure what that means, but I think it's good. :)
Me...believe it or not...my baby bump is definitly there now. i'm debating on whether i need to start wearing my maternity clothes or not. i think the fact that i'm thinking about it probably means that i should. (and maybe the fact that it's getting hard to cover my stomach)!
ps. what should I bring on the cruise?

Potty Training Funnies
So...I'm trying to potty train Jeanette. So far my favorite dialog between the two of this goes something like this:
Me: Jeanette, let's go potty!
J: I don't have to.
Me: Let's try, just in case.
J: No, maybe later.
about 2 minutes later
J: Mom! I went potty in my underwear!
Me: Uh oh, next time let's try to make it to the toilet.
J: I did!!
Hopefully this won't go on much longer. :)
